- 1880 Census, Doddridge Co, WV (West Union District), enumerated on Jun 3 1880:
Safrona Tucker, 35, wash woman, single; bastard dau Bell, 16; bastard son Tallifaro, 14; bastard son Thomas, 11; bastard son George, 6; bastard son Chas, 2.
A notation pertaining to Thomas indicated that he was "maimed, crippled, bedridden or otherwise disabled," and that he was unable to read or write.
In the adjoining household were Saphrona's mother Ann and two children.
1900 Census, Doddridge Co, WV (West Union District), enumerated on Jun 6 1900:
Sophrona Tucker, 52, b. Sep 1847, widowed, mother of 6 children (3 still living); brother John Tucker, 40, b. 1860, pedler, single; son Thomas Tucker, 26, b. 1874, painter, single; son Frank Tucker, 23, b. Jun 1877, hardware salesman, single; boarder Nona M. Smith, 8, b. Nov 1891 in Ohio; boarder Walter A. Smith, 5, b. May 1895 in Ohio.
(Note: There are several discrepancies in this entry. Sophronia Tucker's marital status on her death record was entered as single, with her birth date given as Apr 1847. Son Thomas' birth date is shown on his headstone as Jan 27 1870, which conforms with his age entered on his death record. The exact relationship of Nona M. Smith and Walter A. Smith to this household is not clear. In the 1910 Census, Nona was enumerated in West Union as a housekeeper (employee) in the household of William S. & Lula (Smith) Heflin.)
