      There appear to be two entries for this couple in the ledger-style marriage record books, one in 1897 and an earlier one in 1893 which seems not to have been finalized. (1) The 1893 entry: Identified as James M. Propst, widowed, 47, b. Harrison Co, res. Calhoun Co, son of Lewis & Elizabeth Propst; and Susanna Smith, single, 29, b. & res. in Calhoun Co, dau of "not known." The space for the marriage date was left blank, with an X marked to the side of it. The preceding entry was dated Apr 16, and the following one was Apr 23. (2) The 1897 entry: Identified as James M. Propst, widowed, 52, b. Harrison Co, res. Calhoun Co, son of Louis & E. Propst; and Susanna Smith, single, 33, b. & res. in Calhoun Co, dau of Betsy Deem (?). Married Dec 9 1897 in Calhoun County.
