- "William 'Bill' W. Coontz born 1823, married Lucinda Ramsey, born 1825, eldest daughter of John C. and Margaret (Digman) Ramsey. William was killed by Hud Ramsey during the early years of the Civil War. Family tradition has it that William, whose son was serving the Union Army was killed in the Civil War, argued with William W. Hudson 'Hud' Ramsey, a democrat and southern sympathizer, and the argument led to bloodshed. Hud was the son of James and Mary Ramsey and a first cousin of Bill's wife, Lucinda."
