    • The obituary of Benjamin Jesse Scott states that he "was a federal soldier during the war of the Rebellion, and marched with Sherman to the sea, was a member of the Grand Army Post at West Union, West Virginia. The 1890 Veterans Schedule indicates the he was in the 5th Ohio Infantry, a unit that "served in the forces under William T. Sherman in the Atlanta Campaign and was part of Sherman's March to the Sea and the subsequent operations against Confederate-held Savannah, Georgia."
