      Identified as Sarah A. (sic) Smith, white female, born alive on Nov 24 1865, dau of James W. and Elimind (sic) E. Smith. (BR Bk 1, p. 26; http://www.wvculture.org/vrr/va_view.aspx?Id=2608619&Type=Birth)
      This birth record is a ledger-style typewritten log, transcribed from the original handwritten log, and appears to pertain to the same child recorded a few pages later in the same log and identified as Sarah M. Smith, white female, born alive on Nov 24 1866, dau of James W. & Elmina E. Smith. (BR Bk 1, p. 31; http://www.wvculture.org/vrr/va_view.aspx?Id=2608371&Type=Birth)
      This would also appear to be the Sarah Melissa Smith who married James Reed and whose birth date was given in the 1900 Census as Nov 1865 and in her death record as Nov 4 (sic) 1865. The 1870 Census of her family contained an entry for Sarah M. Smith, age 4, but not for a sibling within one year's age. It is concluded that the transcription process resulted not only in the same birth being record twice, but also in both entries being incorrect in different ways, and that the child in question was Sarah Melissa Smith, born Nov 24 1865.
