      Local news item, "West Union Record," Thursday, Sep 7 1916, in its entirety:
      "W. W. Cain, of Cove District," who attended the institute here last week, is a violinist of good accomplishment. He rendered a selection at the institute, and at the entertainment Thursday evening he played "Annie Laurie," responding to an encore with "Old Black Joe," both of which took well. He is a successful teacher of the violin."

      Although Wirt Cain is listed as a surviving brother in the obituary of Salome Cain Hart, evidence in census records indicate that they were probably first cousins. Birth, death and marriage records provide no conclusive evidence either way.
