- His military marker incorrectly shows his death date as 1903, but his obituary (Decorah Republican Decorah; Winneshiek Co., IA Thur 8 Feb 1906 p7 c2-3) states that he "died at the home of his sister Mrs. Musser, Thursday, Feb. 1, 1906." His marker also has a birth date of 1839, which is inconsistent with census and other records. The 1900 Census shows his birth date as Apr 1846, while his obituary states Apr 20 1843.
