    He was a 1939 graduate of Pullman High School in Ritchie Co, then attended Glenville State College before enlisting in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He served as a pilot in Italy during World War II, attaining the rank of lieutenant. He continued his education at the University of Colorado at Boulder, where he graduated with an aeronautical engineering degree. He was employed by Boeing Corporation in Seattle on rocket space projects, working there until his retirement his 1987.
