    Birth date given in 1900 Census as May 1894, while both his WW I and WW II draft registrations show it as Apr 14 1896. But his birth and death records show it as Apr 14 1895. On both draft registrations, he signed with an X, with a witness vouching for him.

    Occupation:
    Exemption from military draft requested on grounds that his "assistance to aged parents - Father not able to work." When he was drafted the following year, it was in the status of a Limited Service Class of recruit, which typically applied to those with physical limitations. The basis for his inclusion in that group is not known.
