    Notes:

    She worked for the federal government in Washington DC and Lexington KY during the war years of the 1949s, and was later employed by the Mutual Fire Insurance Company in Clarksburg WV. She was one of the first volunteer members of the Doddridge County Emergency Squad, and was employed by the Town of West Union as the town's first, and only, "meter maid" during the 1970s. She continued to work for the Town of West Union in the town office until she retired.

    "Mr. & Mrs. Dallas Williams of West Union, Route, were notified Jan. 25th by the War Dept. that their only son, Pfc. Charles L. "Bud" Williams, was killed in action in France Jan. 12th 1945. No other details were given."

    "Pfc. Williams was born May 23, 1925, and entered the service Aug. 27, 1943, trained at Ft. McClellan, Ala., and Ft. Meade, Md. He landed in North Africa, Feb. 10, 1944, went from there to the Anzio Beachhead in Italy, May 26, under Gen. Mark Clark's Fifth Army. He participated in the battle liberating Rome. Then was transferred to the Seventh Army for the invasion of Southern France, Aug. 15. He was sounded in France Sept. 28th, and sent to a Hospital Unit, Nov 19th, reporting back to his division. He wrote a letter to his parents, dated Dec. 31st, headed U.S. Army in Germany, which was the last received from him. He was awarded the White Star Medal and Marksmanship Badge, together with the Purple Heart."
