(14) Headstone. (15) 1860 Census, Doddridge County, (W)VA. Event Notes Note (1) Military records show that John Hutson enlisted in Co A, 14th W.Va. Infantry, on 13 Aug 1862 in West Union, Doddridge County. He mustered in as a Private on 23 Aug 1862 in Wheeling. On 30 Apr 1863, he was captured at Greenland Gap and was imprisoned in Richmond by 6 May 1863. On 14 May 1863, he was paroled at City Point, Virginia. He reported to Camp Parole, Maryland on 16 May 1863 and was sent to Washington, DC on 20 May 1863. At the Battle of Cloyds Mountain, he straggled and was captured by Rebels on 9 May 1864. He was admitted to Andersonville Prison on 10 Sep 1864 and died there in his quarters the same day, cause of death scorbutus.
