Event Notes Note (1) Clark or Shelby County Note (2) Calvin Davis, grandson of William Davis, said that since the fall of 1830 he heard Ephraim Bee of Harrison County, Virginia, say that "William Davis was a Tory for he had killed his father and he could prove it." Calvin also said that there had been a misunderstanding between Ephraim Bee and William Davis over a year ago. He said that Ephraim Bee was "a malicious ill-disposed person." Reuben Davis also overheard Ephraim Bee say the same thing and that Ephraim Bee would endeavor to stop William Davis from receiving a pension. Note (3) James Davis from Clark County, Ohio, in a sworn deposition, said that he and William Davis served in 1794 in the Harrison County Woodrangers under Col. William Lowther, Capt. Cornelius Bogard and Ensign Jonathan Coburn for 9-1/2 months. Note (4) In 1820, the tax list for Harrison County, Virginia (now West Virginia), shows that William "Bottom Billy" Davis had one slave, gender not stated. But the 1820 Federal Census for Harrison County does not show him has having any slaves.
