Hoskinson, a highly esteemed citizen of Alpha, Doddridge county, was instantly killed at West Union on Wednesday. Hoskinson was walking through town when No. 3 express came rushing through the place at the rate of 50 miles an hour. The train struck him, throwing him a considerable distance ahead of the engine. His head struck the end of a tie, mashing his skull, and his brains were scattered over the ground. He was struck the second time and again thrown a considerable distance, nearly all the bones of his body being broken. The deceased was in the employ of the South Penn Oil Co. and was 60 years of age. -- Parkersburg Sentinel."
