(10) Doddridge County WV Marriages 1845-1937, Wes Cochran, 156 Gihon Meadows, Apt 150, Parkersburg, WV 26101 (Jan 1993), Identified as Abraham Williams, 22, b. Monongalia Co, res. Doddridge Co, son of Joseph & Elizabeth; and Drusilla Stout, 26, b. Harrison Co, res. Doddridge Co, dau of Job & Margaret. Married Jul 3 1855. Event Notes Note (1) Military records show that Abraham Williams enlisted in Co M, 6th W.Va. Infantry, on 18 Nov 1861 in West Union, Doddridge County. His description was 5'8-1/4", light complexion, blue eyes, light hair, farmer, born in Monongalia County. He mustered in as a Private at West Union on 26 Dec 1861, age 31. Company muster rolls show that for the period Jan-Apr 1862, he was on guard duty at No. 4 Tunnel/Bridge of the Northwestern Virginia Railroad (N.W.V.R.R.). He was shown as being sick at hospital in West Union during the period 30 Apr 1962 - 31 Aug 1862. From 31 Aug 1862 to Feb 1863, he was back on guard duty at the No. 4 Tunnel/Bridge. He mustered out in Grafton, Taylor County, on 1 Dec 1864, the expiration of his term, his unit being that of Captain J. E. Morrow. NOTE: The state-issued Civil War medal intended for him was never claimed and remains in storage at the West Virginia State Archives in Charleston. http://www.wvculture.org/history/archives/medals.html Note (2) At Solomon Weekley's Army enlistment in West Union in 1862, his birth was given as 1843 in Doddridge County. But this is believed to be incorrect, as he was age 5 in the 1850 Census of Monongalia County. In that same census was his brother Abraham, who served in the same military unit and whose Doddridge County marriage record shows his birthplace as Monongalia County. Note (3) Military records show that Solomon Williams enlisted in Co A, 14th W.Va. Infantry, on 14 Aug 1862 at West Union. His description was 5'6" tall, fair complexion, blue eyes, fair hair, occupation farmer. He mustered in as a Private on 23 Aug 1862 at Wheeling. He was on duty at Fort Fuller, Keyser WVa, from Jan 1863 to Apr 1863. He was sick at Romney WVa in Sep 1863, and was sick at the Regimental Hospital in March 1864. In Aug 1864, he was on detached service at Charleston, WVa, after which he was on detached service as a scout with Captain Blazer. He was wounded in the Battle of Kabletown, Jefferson Co, WVa, on 18 Nov 1864, and died two days later.
