His obituary states only that he was born in 1839 and died on Oct 24 1925 at age 86. The 1900 Census shows his birth date as Oct 1840. Note (2) Death record states only that burial was in West Union. But his obituary, which also states that burial was in West Union, specifies that burial was made "by the side of his wife," who had died 19 years before. Henrietta (Smith) Davis is known from her headstone to be buried in the former IOOF Cemetery located at the upper portion of Blockhouse Hill Cemetery. No headstone has been found for Franklin Maxwell Davis. Note (3) Birth date given in 1900 Census as Jan 1850. Note (4) "Davis - The Settlers of Salem W.Va.," p. 70, reports birth date as Apr 3 1873. But death record states Apr 2 1873, age 77, while obituary states Apr 2 1874, age 77. The 1900 Census shows his birth date as Apr 1873. A headstone has not been found for him.
