WVa, Private in the US Army, among the many soldiers assigned to the "Casual Army Detachment" at the Fort McDowell Military Reservation, located on Angel Island in the San Francisco Bay. His residence in April 1935 was listed as rural Doddridge County, WVa. During World War II, Fort McDowell served as part of the huge San Francisco Port of Embarkation. The fort became a staging center for "casuals" (unassigned enlisted men) being sent as replacements to the Pacific Theater of War.
