Infantry, under command of Capt. Jacob Smith. He enrolled on 14 Aug 1862 in West Union and mustered in on 23 Aug 1862 in Wheeling. He died on 15 May 1864 at a Union hospital at Cloyds Mountain of wounds received on 9 May 1864 while in the hands of the enemy. Cause of death given as musket wound through both thighs. NOTE: Although military records consistently show his name with the spelling Weekly, non-military records consistently show it with the Weekley spelling. Note (2) Year of marriage given as 1850 in marriage bond, but as 1849 in marriage record. The 1850 date would be correct, since Cassander (Cassa) Weekley is still living with her mother and siblings in the 1850 Census, enumerated in Jul/Aug 1850.
