Event Notes Note (1) Birth date given in 1900 Census as July 1848. But his obituary states that he was born in 1846, which conforms to his age 5 and 14 in the 1850 and 1860 censuses. Note (2) "History of Ritchie County," p. 236, incorrectly states that John Nelson Nutter settled in California, and his brother William Thomas Nutter in Kansas. The reverse was true. Note (3) A notation in the column for illness or medical conditions indicates that he was afflicted with scrofula, a tuberculous infection of the skin on the neck. Note (4) Age 17 given in 1900 Census, with birth date July 1882. But she appeared in the 1880 Census as a one-year-old daughter.
