(11) Obituary of husband, According to the 1910 Census, they were both previously married. She was the mother of 11 children, 8 still living as of May 1910. Event Notes Note (1) Birth date given in obituary as Jun 9 1843, age 94. But date on headstone is 1842. Age 34 in 1880 Census would put birth in about 1846. Note (2) His obituary stated that "temporary burial was in the mausoleum of the Elkview Cemetery in Clarksburg." His headstone, shared with his wife, is at Big Isaac Cemetery. Note (3) According to his obituary, Joseph Napoleon Gulley was the "last Confederate soldier living in Doddridge County and one of the few remaining in West Virginia." His obituary further states: "As a youngster, Gulley enlisted in April 1862 at Buckhannon, as a private in Company E, Twentieth Confederate Cavalry, a part of Jackson's brigade and Ewell's corps. Later he became a sergeant. He fought with the Confederates throughout the war, participating in many encounters in the Valley of Virginia, including those of Cedar Creek, a prelude to the second battle of Bull Run; the capture of Harper's Ferry, and the battle of Sharpsburg or Antietam. Gulley at his death still carried the scars of wounds suffered at the battle of New Market and in a skirmish at Huntersville, near Elkins." Name Index
